New Austrian Standard ÖNorm Z 1020:2025

New Austrian Standard ÖNorm Z 1020:2025

15.10.2025 | News

On October 1, 2025, the revised ÖNorm Z 1020:2025 was published. This revised version replaces the ÖNorm Z 1020:2006 standard. The most important aspect for our dealers and industrial customers is the 24-month transition period. This allows manufacturers, dealers, and the industry to continue selling the “Type 1” and “Type 2” variants. Furthermore, there is no requirement for retrofitting or replacement due to the change in standards. Austrian authorities will also gradually adjust the requirements for businesses. For this reason, until the end of September 2027, during inspections, “Type 1” and “Type 2” will continue not to be objected to as long as they are complete and have valid expiry dates. Therefore, it is still possible to order first aid kits and refills according to the Z 1020:2006 standard, Type 1 and Type 2, from us.

Why was it changed?
All ÖNorm standards undergo regular review by the respective expert committees and panels. In the most recent revision of the standard, the current requests and suggestions from the Austrian Accident Insurance, based on the analysis of accidents in workplaces and public authorities, were taken into account, as well as the latest experiences of emergency medical professionals and committee members, and the effects of the COVID pandemic.

What has been changed?
1. In the future, there will only be one first aid kit ÖNorm Z 1020:2025
• The previous division into Type 1 and Type 2 has been eliminated.
2. New products have been added to the content of Ö-Norm Z 1020:2025:
• 6 disposable gloves (nitrile) according to RM 455
• 1 bandage cloth, 40 cm x 60 cm, with aluminum-coated compress
• 3 hand disinfectant or skin cleansing wipes for uninjured skin
• 2 instant cold packs
• 1 splinter forceps (at least 8 cm long)
• 3 FFP2 masks

3. Different expiration dates for the contents
The FFP2 masks and the cold instant compresses will have a significantly shorter expiration date according to the manufacturers’ specifications. Therefore, these contents may need to be replaced individually if necessary.

4. Adjustment of the HEPP product range

The first aid equipment for companies and offices should fundamentally meet a minimum standard, based on the training content for company first aiders. This ensures that first aiders are sufficiently trained in the use of medical products in emergencies. Therefore, each company must individually check the quantity and arrangement of first aid equipment within the company.
